Exploring the physical and somatic sensations of wind, Whispers explored the experience of fear and the unknown and how this contributes to our sense of self and becoming. Through large scale climate disasters, our world has never been more uncertain. At the same time, the unprecedented rise in mental health issues, anxiety, depression and alienation cannot be seen as an issue set apart. The technologies we develop on the one hand promise to relieve these fears, from meditation apps to planetary scale interventions in weather systems, yet further exploit precious resources, carving up the landscape and our attention and take us further away from our immediate experience of self and the body. Unfolding over a twelve minute sequence of sound, light and wind, the work opens to sensations of surrender, loss of control and overwhelm.
