Pure Dog, from Mispronunciations Series
Pure Dog
I’ve mistaken this heart for a dog
Everyday I've been asking for
a pure dog
a clear dog
a crystal dog
…
I sit and I wait and I watch
And nothing
Just a dogs wanting
Im trying patient longing
Then something, maybe
Something like a murmur
Or a melting drop landing
Enough to keep going
I’ve tried caressing and caring, tending, sharing
But I’m restless, waiting, clock watching
And I feel this ongoing, this dogged longing
Patience I'm trying
Ongoing, loyal following
Now I’m reaching, grasping and crawling
Downward doging
Arching and aching, this longing for something, keeps calling
These cares and worries and wantings
But nothing moves with the sound of stories, sorries and lorries
As were walking and walking down this narrow path
With dogged longings
Its ongoing
This waiting for the heart and the dog and you God.

Your Way
You say this is the right way
the only way
you say it is the way to peace
You went your way
one thousand miles
and left me stranded
I looked for you on the way
I didn’t find you
days passed
I’m going my way now
one step at a time
maybe I’ll find you on the way
What Is Not, Is
What is given, what is taken, what is shared, what is lost, what is held, what is passed over, what is owned, what is inherited, what is grabbed, what is looted, what is spent, what is rewarded, what is made available, what is passed between, what is submerged, what is hidden, what is revealed, what is expressed, what is kept silent, what is held back, what is whispered, what is metabolized, what is inherent, what is taken for granted, what is legitimized, what is rewarded, what is present, what is seen, what is forgotten, what is eradicated, what is transmitted, what is known, what is told, what is recorded, what is disseminated, what is left out, what is redacted, what is lost forever, what is continued, what is always the same, what is without a name, what is singular, what is the beginning, what is the last, what is real, what is high, what is low, what is manifest, what is true, what is without end.
Desire
Desire is a train and I’ve been in the wreckage
Crashing, burning, swearing with a smile through a clenched jaw
The enamel on my teeth has worn thin
I’ve got dental bills through the roof
Cavities, root canals, clip on replacements they’ve offered
A false tooth?
I chose gold to fill the hole
It won’t be visible but I know it’s there
And I know it will be there in the ground too
A way of giving back- beautifully
There’s something reassuring about the thought of nothing left but a gold glimmer in the dark earth
Swimming pools of gold
They say it’s already a-lotted- written out it’s limit
And part of that will be inside my mouth
Witnessing my every word
Chewing the fat
How is the gold market these days?
Fluctuating through diseases, presidents, disasters of every kind
I’ve got some gold in a safe too
My marriage dowery
Something to give stability
To hold onto
That’s what they said
Desire is the mainline and I’ve got a ticket on the fastest route
Black Square
Lights on, lights off, as I move in and out of rooms. I haven’t seen the news since I started out on this road. I imagine the war is still raging in the country that birthed the Black Square. Follow the line in four directions, a simple plane emerges, as I draw a blunt crayon across the page. I follow the line without modulations—- an energy transfer—A supreme ancestor arises.
The weight of the world is hanging over us again but it isn’t that of steel and soot, it’s a virtual vacuum, it contains the depths of a crater, hollowed out and then dumped on our shoulders. We’re blinded by the sun. You’re victory never came. We pin black squares on our chests to mourn that which has come to pass. Im turning around in circles with the impossibility of this task at hand. To think a future new, bright.

Drunk In Love
You can smell my freedom on me
Your pheromones heightened like a skunks needles
And I’m flaunting it
Wafting it around in my new found ambivalence
Blinded by intoxication
Drunk in love
You throw out your hooks
A single look
A capturing gaze
im wasted
Pussy
Clench the base
See how corsetry emerges from a wrack of ribs
Tighten, hold, release
Inhale, Exhale, expand, contract
Everyone is doing it
Everything is doing it
You’re looking at me as I write this on my phone
You pick up yours to equalize the balance
Balance
Never quite achieved
Maybe it just isnt for me
Safety
To feel safe is the salvation
To search for the salvation is a curse
To search for salvation is emancipation
Salvation from the safety
To live in this tangled hair
A nest to call my home
When home is far and near
Existing in the objects in my handbag
How to survive a paradox?
To be here and there
Everything and everyone
Neither one nor the other
But one and all at once
I looked with light for light
But I walked around with sunglasses
A prescription that didn’t match
My eyes as they fluctuated
An aperture resisting restraint
I slept a lot
As early as I could
With eyes closed the aperture fully expanded
Eyelids turned inwards
I slept as long as I could
Waking with clench fists
Ready to tackle the day
Ready to perform a miracle
I slept next to a poet once
All I could hear was snoring
now all I want is song
and poems and soft things
your lullabies make the perfect mornings
I like this invisibility of blackness
With eyes closed and lips sealed
Singing my song along the way home
